Justin Ross is easy to get along with.

A top recruit who went to Clemson, Ross was outstanding as a receiver and was billed as a future first-round pick. He had the size and speed to be a powerhouse in the NFL. He then had a congenital fusion of his spine, had surgery, and missed one season. His health problems were the reason for his non-professional career. Then he missed all of last season while on injured reserve due to foot surgery.

Ross has been racking up some highlights at Chiefs camp, and he played a huge role in his NFL preseason debut on Sunday. Ross scored a 15-yard touchdown in the third quarter against the New Orleans Saints, a big game for him in his return.

It’s easy to think of Ross’ lineage, and remember in his freshman season, which included a huge game against Alabama in the College Football Playoff, imagine him working with Patrick Mahomes and putting on big stuff. Ross should be on the list of presidents first. They’re deep at receiver, and Ross was playing the second half of the season opener.

Sunday was a good move. Ross’ touchdown catch was his second of the game. He had it 14 yards earlier. Everything will help as he tries to climb up the depth chart and secure a regular season spot.

If nothing else, Ross has put some goodies on tape for other NFL teams, if the Chiefs don’t have room for him. His contact with the saints must have felt quite satisfying.
