He is set to play Victor Hovland in his second Ryder Cup.
Hovland officially earned a place in Team Europe for the upcoming Ryder Cup on Tuesday. Hovland will now join Rory McIlroy and John Rahm, who qualified last week.
Hovland made his Ryder Cup debut in 2021, going 0-3-2 at Whistling Streets in Wisconsin. Hovland was the first Norwegian player to represent Europe in the event. He will now play in his first Ryder Cup on European soil when the event kicks off on September 29 outside Rome.
The 25-year-old is ranked No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking and is No. 7 in the FedExCup standings heading into this week’s BMW Championship in Illinois — which marks the second of three PGA Tour playoff events. Hovland has seven top-10 finishes this season and earned his fourth Memorial Tournament playoff victory in June. He also didn’t miss a cut.
Hovland has finished inside the top 20 in all four major tournaments this season, including T2 finishes at the PGA Championship, T7 finish at The Masters Tournament, and T3 finishes at The Players Championship. He finished T13 last week at the FedEx St. Jude.
European qualification runs until September 3. Qualification for the American Ryder Cup team ends after the BMW Championship on Sunday. Captain Zack Johnson will then select his six selections for his captaincy to complete the 12-man squad. Scotty Scheffler and Windham Clark have already qualified for the Americans.
