Watch Lance catch a wild TD pass in the 49ers-Raiders preseason game appeared in the original Bay Area Sports NBC
Trey Lance’s first touchdown pass before the season was definitely weird.
With 8:37 left in the second quarter of the 49ers’ season-opener against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium, a Lance pass intended for wide receiver Chris Conley in the back of the end zone was deflected by Raiders cornerback Duke Shelley and Russ Doyley’s diving arms for a touchdown.
Doyley’s touchdown catch tied the game at seven before Las Vegas eventually jumped out to a 14-7 lead before halftime.
Lance hasn’t played in a live game since suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2 last season and looked a bit rusty throughout the first quarter. Replaced by veteran Sam Darnold in the second half, Lance finished the day completing 10 of 15 passes for 112 yards and 1 touchdown.
Although his only touchdown pass was the result of a lucky bounce, Lance would graciously accept the gift.
